Opening matches were split between Sky Sports, the incumbent sports broadcaster which has been showing the league for 18 years, and BT Sport, the new challenger which has bought up TV rights to a quarter of all the games being shown.
For fans wanting to watch all the games this created a bit of a conundrum. Forget having a single £27.50 Sky Sports TV package on top of your regular Sky. Today it’s a minefield of either having to add another £21.99 to your bill with a BT Sport package on top, or flipping to BT TV and paying Sky for the privilege.
